PaceLab Launches Fast Bowling Institute USA in Austin, Texas

New partnership with WCI will establish Austin as PaceLab’s United States base for specialist fast bowling development and high-performance training

The global fast bowling development system founded by internationally recognised fast bowling specialist Steffan Jones, has announced the launch of the PaceLab Fast Bowling Institute USA, in partnership with WCI.

The launch comes at a time when cricket is experiencing unprecedented growth in the United States following the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, the expansion of Major League Cricket, and cricket's inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. As the sport enters a new phase of development, demand is increasing for specialist coaching and high-performance pathways that can prepare young players to compete at higher levels.

Based at True Grind Systems in Round Rock, Texas, the Institute will provide young and aspiring fast bowlers in the United States with access to a structured, long-term development pathway combining specialist coaching, individual profiling, physical preparation and ongoing online support.

True Grind Systems is a dedicated strength and conditioning and high-performance training facility. While the facility has traditionally worked extensively with baseball athletes, it provides a broader performance environment designed to develop strength, speed, power, movement and athletic capability across sports.

This environment is an important part of the Institute’s approach.

Rather than placing fast bowling development solely within a traditional cricket setting, the PaceLab Fast Bowling Institute USA will expose players to a genuine high-performance training culture.

The aim is to move beyond a conventional bat-and-ball approach to cricket development and recognise fast bowlers as specialist high-performance athletes whose progress depends on the integration of bowling skill, physical preparation, profiling, workload management and long-term planning.

The launch represents a significant step in PaceLab’s international expansion and establishes Austin as the organisation’s primary base for high-performance fast bowling activity in the United States.

The PaceLab Fast Bowling Institute USA will move beyond traditional short-term coaching clinics by giving players access to a connected development system. Each player will be assessed, placed at the appropriate level and supported through a pathway designed around their individual needs, development stage and long-term potential.

The initial programme will include two primary local training levels, alongside online and hybrid support options for players requiring additional individualisation..

Players will benefit from:

  • Specialist fast bowling coaching and structured training

  • Technical profiling using PaceLab’s PitchWolf system

  • Bowling speed and accuracy assessment

  • Strength and conditioning support

  • Physical profiling and athletic development

  • Individual development plans

  • Workload and training guidance

  • Ongoing remote support between live training sessions

  • Clear progression through the PaceLab player pathway

  • Opportunities to train directly with Steffan Jones during dedicated visits to Austin

Steffan Jones, Founder and Head Coach of PaceLab, said:

“The launch of the PaceLab Fast Bowling Institute USA is about creating a genuine long-term development environment for fast bowlers in America. This is not simply a series of camps or occasional coaching sessions. It is a complete system that allows us to assess each player, understand what they need and support their development consistently over time.

One of the most exciting parts of the project is the environment at True Grind Systems. It is a genuine strength and conditioning and high-performance space that has traditionally worked with baseball athletes, rather than a conventional cricket academy environment.

Cricket development can sometimes remain focused almost entirely on practising with a bat and ball. Fast bowlers need to be viewed as high-performance athletes. Their technical development must be connected with speed, strength, power, movement quality, physical robustness and appropriate workload exposure.

Baseball has developed a strong performance culture around throwing athletes. We are not trying to turn fast bowlers into baseball pitchers, but there are valuable principles within that environment. Combining those principles with PaceLab’s specialist fast bowling system gives us the opportunity to create something genuinely different in Austin.”

The Institute will initially operate through a six-month launch phase, during which PaceLab and WCI will establish the local player pathway, coach delivery structure and ongoing high-performance support model.

Steffan Jones will visit Austin during the launch period to work directly with players and coaches, oversee the implementation of the PaceLab system and assess the progress of the programme.

Alok Singh, Founder & Head Coach of WCI, said:

“There is a growing demand for specialist cricket development in the United States, particularly among young players seeking a clear and professional pathway to higher levels.

True Grind Systems provides the ideal high-performance environment to deliver this programme. Their expertise in developing baseball athletes brings deep knowledge of speed, strength, power and throwing performance which complements PaceLab’s world-leading fast bowling methodology.

Together with PaceLab, we can offer something that has been largely unavailable in the U.S.–a dedicated fast bowling development program supported by world-class coaching, sports science, technology, physical development, and long-term athlete planning.

Our vision is to build a sustainable high-performance ecosystem in Austin where aspiring fast bowlers can develop with purpose, train with confidence, and clearly understand the pathway to reaching their full potential.”

A High-Performance Approach to Fast Bowling

The Institute will treat fast bowling as the integration of:

  • Bowling skill and technical execution

  • Strength, speed and power development

  • Athletic movement and coordination

  • Physical robustness and availability

  • Bowling speed and accuracy

  • Individual physical and technical characteristics

  • Appropriate workload exposure

  • Long-term player development

The approach does not replace cricket-specific coaching. Instead, it places that coaching inside a broader performance system.

Players will therefore be assessed on more than what happens during a traditional net session. PaceLab will consider the complete physical, technical and performance profile of each bowler before determining their development priorities.

The programme will support players across the PaceLab pathway:

Foundation provides players with the essential movement, technical and physical foundations required for safe and effective fast bowling.

Development supports serious fast bowlers who are ready for more structured training, increased accountability and greater individualisation.

In addition to supporting players based in Texas, the Institute will provide opportunities for out-of-state players to access planned training blocks in Austin and continue their development remotely through PaceLab’s online support systems.

The PaceLab Fast Bowling Institute USA will be officially known as:
