PaceLab Delivers Outstanding Profiling Camp at Paul Roos

March 08, 20262 min read

PaceLab recently delivered an excellent profiling camp at Paul Roos on Sunday 8th March, bringing together a group of ambitious fast bowlers for a day built around clarity, insight, and long-term development.

The aim of the day was simple: to give each bowler a clearer understanding of where they currently are, what may be limiting performance, and what they need to focus on moving forward. Too often, fast bowlers are told to simply bowl more, train harder, or change technical details without truly understanding the root cause of what is holding them back. Our profiling day was designed to change that.

Rather than guesswork, the camp focused on collecting objective data that helps build a more accurate picture of each bowler and their current fast bowling profile.

Throughout the day, we collected a range of key data points, including:

  • Ball speed data

  • Upper body power outputs

  • Lower body power outputs

  • Movement and athletic qualities

  • Technical observations

  • How bowlers expressed speed across different tasks and constraints

This information is important because fast bowling performance is multi-factorial. A bowler may need more horsepower. Another may already have physical qualities but struggle to transfer that into ball speed. Another may need support around technical efficiency, movement solutions, or managing workload more effectively. The purpose of profiling is to move beyond assumptions and start with evidence.

That is what made the day at Paul Roos so valuable.

It was not just a chance to test bowlers. It was a chance to begin creating a clearer development pathway for each individual. Every number, every observation, and every output gives us a better understanding of how to support that player in a more targeted and meaningful way.

Most importantly, this camp was not about one day in isolation. It is part of a much bigger picture.

At PaceLab, we want to help bowlers over the long term. That means supporting them not only in adding ball speed, but also in becoming more robust, more efficient, and more capable of staying available throughout the season. Long-term fast bowling development requires more than occasional coaching sessions. It requires a system, clear feedback, and an understanding of how to progress each player over time.

That is exactly what we are continuing to build at Paul Roos.

The profiling camp was an exciting step forward and a strong reflection of the intent from both PaceLab and the bowlers involved. We were extremely pleased with the level of engagement on the day and excited by the opportunity to support more fast bowlers with a clearer, more objective route to improvement.

We look forward to building on the momentum from this camp and helping bowlers at Paul Roos and beyond continue to develop through a smarter, more individualised process.
